The funded projects
The ten largest of 145 projects by EU contribution:
LVOCheck: Diagnosis of large vessel occlusion (LVO) in acute stroke for improving access to treatment
€2.8M EU contribution · 1 partner · 2023-05 to 2025-04 · coordinated by Advanced Brain Companion Diagnostics Spain SL (ES)
LVOCheck is a portable diagnostic solution providing fast identification of large vessel occlusion (LVO) in acute stroke, just by analysing a blood drop from the patient's fingerpick. LVOCheck allows rapid triage of stroke patients already in the ambulance, so patients suffering a LVO can be directly driven to the closest thrombectomy centre to get the clot removed, without the need of a cranial CT scan at the…
StentGuard: Clinical validation of the First Implantable Sensor System for Wireless detection of stent occlusion/ restenosis
€2.5M EU contribution · 1 partner · 2022-10 to 2025-07 · coordinated by Vesselsens GmbH (DE)
Globally, over 237 million people suffer from peripheral artery disease (PAD), an abnormal narrowing of the arteries. The implantation of stents (spiral wire protheses) is the first-line therapy for PAD with ~ 3.5M stents implanted worldwide every year.
rMSI: Real-time multi-spectral imaging for accurate detection of cancerous tissue in endoscopic surgery
€2.5M EU contribution · 1 partner · 2022-10 to 2024-09 · coordinated by Thericon GmbH (DE)
Cancer is the leading cause of death in the EU, with 2.7M diagnoses and 1.3M deaths in 2020. Effective removal of cancerous tissue through endoscopic surgery is challenging because of limited visual and absent tactile information, along the limitations of current imaging technologies, which make it difficult for surgeons to differentiate between different types of tissue.
Confident: Confident®, the digital simulation platform that revolutionizes cardiovascular interventions
€2.5M EU contribution · 1 partner · 2022-11 to 2024-10 · coordinated by Predisurge (FR)
Confident is a disruptive cloud-based platform for digital planning of cardiovascular interventions. Today, many patients do not have access to treatment as their case is considered at too high risk for surgery. Created in 2017, PrediSurge has developed a unique AI-based solution that enables physicians to select the best therapeutic strategy for a specific patient.Confident®builds 3D virtual models of patients’…
HOMEOBRAIN: Homeoproteins as novel therapies for neurodegenerative diseases
€2.5M EU contribution · 1 partner · 2022-11 to 2024-10 · coordinated by Brainever (FR)
With the ageing of the population, neurodegenerative diseases will be a huge societal, health and economic problem. There are no effective solutions that can stop the progression of these devastating diseases. At BrainEver we are developing a groundbreaking platform to treat neurodegenerative diseases based on a family of transcription factors called Homeoproteins (HPs).
ACTIVE: Articular Cartilage Treatment with Injectable hydrogel is Valuable and long-term Effective
€2.5M EU contribution · 1 partner · 2022-10 to 2024-09 · coordinated by Hy2care BV (NL)
Hy2Care brings a regenerative Injectable Hydrogel, of joint- and cartilage-mimicking composition, that is used to treat damaged cartilage. The cartilage defects are easily filled with a syringe during a standard one time arthroscopy. The hydrogel fill the defect, prevents ingrowth of scar tissue and allows the body to heal itself by creating true Hyaline cartilage, ensuring an optimal regenerated tissue.
NEOSONICS: The first medical device for non-invasive detection and monitoring of infant meningitis
€2.5M EU contribution · 1 partner · 2022-12 to 2025-08 · coordinated by Neos New Born Solutions SL (ES)
Meningitis is a life-threatening disease that can kill in a matter of hours or cause life-long disabilities if not detected promptly. Infants (<12 months) are the most vulnerable population with a compromised immunologic system.
DOWN-AUTONOMY: LCTB-21: A DYRK1A protein kinase inhibitor for treatment of cognitive decline in Down Syndrome.
€2.5M EU contribution · 1 partner · 2022-06 to 2026-06 · coordinated by Perha Pharmaceuticals SAS (FR)
All people with Down Syndrome (DS) suffer from a certain level of impaired learning and memory (cognitive disorders) from childhood onwards, greatly impacting their autonomy and societal integration. This is becoming an increasingly urgent issue as people with DS are more often outliving their care takers, yet an adequate treatment has not yet been developed.Studies have revealed that the cognitive decline in people…
CROCUS: Coherent Rapid Optical Communication Under the Stratosphere
€2.5M EU contribution · 1 partner · 2022-06 to 2024-06 · coordinated by Cailabs (FR)
Communication is the heart of our society. However, 1/3 of the world population still does not have access to the internet, while the appetite for connectivity is growing worldwide. As RF networks are reaching their limits in bandwidth, spectrum and security, new architectures are required to reach all populations and support increase in traffic.
InDx CMC Implant: The InDx CMC Implant. A new treatment for thumb base joint arthritis.
€2.5M EU contribution · 1 partner · 2022-11 to 2024-04 · coordinated by Loci Orthopaedics Limited (IE)
The InDx CMC Implant is for the treatment of thumb base joint arthritis. It is the first evidence-based, surgeon-led innovation, implant solution for this major clinical problem. The potential market is estimated at over €700M per year. The implant meets a major unmet clinical need for an ageing EU population.
